Here at Adam, His Answer to Grooming we live by the words 'Get Cleaned Up'. Whether it be tidying up your scruff, keeping your attire neat and clean, we embrace it all. Even down to 'shaving private ryan' (or whatever you choose to call it), however, a majority of women have been doing this for years and with the launch of RFSU's entertaining and imaginative site, it seems its taken a new creative twist.

RFSU is a Swedish sex education association that produces "premium quality products for a safer and more satisfying sex life". The site was created to sell their newest personal shaving line for woman's privates or as they call it, fiffi. It offers shaving tips, a gallery of creative shaving designs, and get this, it has animated pubic hair that allows you to show off your pubic artistic styling, save it and post it to the gallery to win.....something. (Sorry, I haven't fully learned how to read Swedish.)

The North American site has since been shut down and I wonder if the name had anything to do with it, but check it out the Swedish site here.

With the launch of the new BlackBerry Bold, many CrackBerry users, self-included, are thrilled with joy and willing to step over granny to get my....I mean, our hands on one! They're practically sold out in all stores. A friend of mine, who now goes by the name 'Mr. Bold', spent all day searching high and low until he finally came across a Best Buy that had one in stock.

Ever since the Bold was a rumour, reviews have been claiming it to be the best BlackBerry to date, and possibly the best smart phone on the market, however, I'm sure many iPhone users would strongly disagree. Truth be told, it all boils down to what you want in a phone.

While the Bold has certainly improved it's media, resolution, on-board memory and other cool consumer features, at the end of the day it's really a business device. Although the iPhone boasts about adding the 3rd party application, MS Exchange, it's primarily a media device with a cool interface that is fun to play with.

With that said, if you're looking to keep up with your business on the go or to simply 'wow' your colleagues in meetings and around the office, go with the BlackBerry Bold. If your heading back to school with intent on making an impression and be noticed during that first week or you're simply a single 40+ yr old who doesn't want to grow up, and thinks a cool, hip phone that you touch, which we assume you do a lot by yourself, will help you out in the dating department, get the iPhone.

Mac first brought laughs from his stand up in HBO Def Comedy Jams and then went on to memorable roles in House Party 3, Friday, Get on the Bus, Life, Bad Santa, Guess Who and Ocean's 11, 12 and 13. He will deeply be missed.

Ontario's own Jayde Nicole, 22, from Port Perry, is Playboy's 2008 Playmate of the Year. The brunette bombshell is featured in a 10-page nude pictorial in Playboy's June issue. Along with her title, Jayde receives $100,000 in prize money and a 2008 Cadillac CTS. She is Canada's first Playmate of the Year since 1982 when Shannon Tweed (long time girlfriend of Gene Simmons from Kiss) was honored with the title.

Jayde owns a modeling agency called Jayde Nicole Inc. that she founded in 2005 and had been managing the day-to-day operations of the agency before catching Playboy's eye and landing the title of Miss January 2007.

SHAVING CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE?

Men who don't shave every day enjoy less sex and are 70 percent more likely to suffer a stroke that daily shavers, a new study shows.

A team at Bristol University who examined the link between shaving, coronary heart disease and stroke in 2,438 middle-aged Welsh men, said that men who did not shave every day were more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke.

Over the course of the 20-year study, there were 835 deaths, they reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology. In all, 45% of the men who shaved less than daily died, compared with 31% of those who shaved at least daily.

Many of the excess deaths were due to higher rates of smoking and the poorer lifestyles of men who did not shave daily but the scientists said this did not explain their substantially raised risk of strokes.

The findings show that men who don't shave every day are less likely to be married and are more likely to be blue-collar workers. They also have fewer orgasms, tend to be shorter, and to suffer from angina.

"The association between infrequent shaving and death is probably due to underlying smoking and social factors, but a small hormonal effect may also exist," Professor Shah Ebrahim, of the department of social medicine, said in a statement.

He said the low frequency of orgasm in men who did not shave regularly might be because they had low levels of testosterone or might simply reflect the fact that they were unmarried and had less opportunity for sex.

Well, I'm not sure if I really believe this, except that it is an interesting read. However, if you shave more than once a day, stick with it. If it doesn't save your life, atleast you know you'll die looking good!

THE PRICE FOR BRINGING THE NFL TO TORONTO.

The Buffalo Bills will receive $78 million -- more than double their calculated 2006 operating income -- to play eight games in Toronto over the next five years.

The deal, announced in February, was reached with a group headed by Rogers CEO and founder Ted Rogers, and Larry Tanenbaum, chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors. Rogers also owns the Blue Jays as well as the Rogers Centre.

The payment to the Bills was disclosed for the first time in Rogers Communications' 2008 first-quarter report released last Tuesday. Rogers is part of a consortium that negotiated a deal with the Bills to have them play five regular-season and three preseason games, starting this year, at the downtown Rogers Centre

In becoming the NFL's first team to play annual games outside the United States, the Bills are scheduled to host Pittsburgh in a preseason match at Toronto on Aug. 14, followed by a regular-season game against Miami on Dec. 7.

As part of the agreement, the Toronto group is effectively leasing the home games from the Bills. Buffalo will provide the team, the NFL provides an opponent, while the Toronto organizers will be responsible for selling tickets, concessions and promoting the event.

The Toronto group is using the eight-game series to show the city can support its own NFL franchise. The Bills sought the agreement to generate additional revenues by expanding their market to Canada's largest city and financial capital, a 90-minute drive from Buffalo.

The $78 million payment eclipses what Forbes calculated the Bills made in 2006, in the magazine's annual financial breakdown of NFL franchises. Forbes calculated the Bills had an operating income of $31.2 million after bringing in $176 million in revenues that year.

Broken down, the Bills will make nearly $9.75 million per game in Toronto, something they'd be unable to make at Orchard Park, where the small-market team has perennially had the lowest ticket prices in the NFL. The Bills' average ticket price for this season is about $51 at Ralph Wilson Stadium, which has a 72,000 seating capacity.

Ticket prices for the games in Toronto have not yet been released, but are expected to average more than $100 at a facility with a 54,000 seating capacity for football.

Demand is already high after more than 100,000 single-ticket reservations were made for the eight-game series through a Web site established by the Toronto group. Tickets will be distributed via a lottery starting this month.

WHAT ARE THOSE RIDGES IN YOUR NAILS?

This is a common question and a common condition. Nail ridging is almost always normal and is a sign of maturity.

Vertical ridges come with aging and are in some ways analogous to wrinkles on your skin. They occur as straight lines from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. They usually start in one or two nails and eventually develop in all of your nails as you get older. They can appear as early as your 30’s but become more noticeable by the time you cash your first social security check.

What can you do to prevent nail ridging? Not much. But Dr. Benabio, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology advises you can ensure that you have the healthiest nails possible by doing the following:

Take biotin 2.5 mg each day. Either through supplements or foods high in biotin: green leafy vegetables, brown rice, wheat, peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, walnuts, liver, egg yolks, cheese, and sweet potatoes.

File your nails with a coarse nail file to smooth the ridges, then continue to file and smooth with a progressively finer grit file; last, use a buffer to get a polished look. NOTE: shinny buffed nails certainly do not work on all men but, smoothing out ridges is probably a good idea, a bit like highlighting your grays.

Soak your nails in olive oil to keep them protected from drying out

After washing your hands, apply moisturizer and rub it into your nails.

Don’t push back your cuticles.

The AP reports a truck loaded with treated human feces accidentally dumped much of its cargo along a 300-yard stretch of Crown Point, Indiana's Hwy 55, blocking traffic and releasing the stifling smell into the surrounding neighborhood.

After several hours of hosing down the pavement, the scent of the waste had died down from the overwhelming aroma that sent firefighters scrambling for their air tanks when they first arrived.

The processed waste, which had been on its way from a Water Recycling Plant to a farm field, was not hazardous, said Crown Point Assistant Fire Chief Gerard Abraham - the No. 2 man at the department.

The driver apparently struck a pothole that loosened the hydraulics holding his dump truck's rear gate closed. He drove for several blocks before he realized he was trailing a thick layer of feces behind him.

The driver was ticketed for failing to properly secure his load and the hauling company will be billed for the cleanup.

Growing up I was never a fan of watches but, as I've gotten older I've become very fond of them. Its actually the only accessory I presently wear and when I'm without it, I feel naked. So, if you're in the market for a new timepiece and want to sound like you know what you're talking about, here are some terms to impress the sales help and anyone else in earshot.

1. Complication
Any function of a watch that goes beyond simple timekeeping. Could be an annual or lunar calendar, could be something as basic as a stopwatch.

2. Movement
All those bits and pieces inside that run the thing.

3. Quartz
A movement powered by a battery and regulated by the oscillations of a quartz crystal. It’s way more accurate than other watch types—which isn’t to say we necessarily recommend you buy one.

4. Self-winding
A type of mechanical watch, containing a rotor on a pivot, that’s wound by the day-to-day movements of the wearer’s wrist. It’s also referred to as automatic.

5. Water-resistant
Just because a watch says it’s water-resistant doesn’t mean you should swim or shower with it on. To be safe, only do so if it’s water-resistant up to one hundred meters.

ONE CANADIAN NOT GOING TO THE OLYMPICS

The co-founder of Roots Canada says the company has decided not to pursue contracts to outfit Olympic athletes.

Michael Budman's comments come after an announcement that Roots will not be designing uniforms for the U.S. Olympic team at this summer's games in Beijing.

In 2005, Roots lost the contract to outfit Canada's Olympians to Hudson's Bay Company.

Budman says the company is very interested in supporting athletes but does not want to be involved with the politics associated with the Olympics.

He describes the parting of ways with the U.S. Olympic Committee as mutually beneficial, adding the company's bottom line did not suffer thanks to a significant payout.

The U.S. team's uniforms will now be designed by Polo Ralph Lauren.

The South American resort of San Alfonso del Mar in Chile sports a swimming pool approximately eight hectares in size. The gigantic man made salt water lagoon stretches over 1,000 yards and contains an incredible 250,000 cubic meters of water. Though the water is crystal clear you may want to be extra careful not to drop that new engagement ring in the deep end; which measures 115 ft.

The Guinness World Records has acknowledged the lagoon as being the world’s largest swimming pool.

The project which cost nearly $2 billion, took five years to complete and is equivalent in size to an incredible 6,000 standard domestic pools.

The monster pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other. The annual maintenance bill should be around $4 million.

Paul McCartney was ordered today to pay Heather Mills $48.6 million to settle their divorce.

A document released by the Family Court said the judge awarded Mills a lump sum of $33 million plus the assets she currently holds worth $15.6 million.

"I'm so, so happy with this," Mills told reporters following the closed hearing.

The court also ruled that the couple's 4-year-old daughter Beatrice should receive a "periodical payments order" of $70,000 per annum. On top of that, McCartney will pay for the child's nanny and school fees.

"I'm so glad it's over," Mills said at her impromptu news conference.

"It was an incredible result in the end to secure mine and my daughter's future and that of all the charities that I obviously plan on helping and making a difference with — because you know it has been my life for 20 years," she said.

While pleased with the financial settlement, Mills intends to appeal to prevent publication of the details of the settlement for the couple's daughter.

McCartney, 65, and Mills, 40, went to court last month to decide on Mills' share of his fortune. Mills was seeking in the neighborhood of $250 million, while McCartney proposed she should receive $31.6 million, including her own assets.

Still, the hefty payout shouldn't affect McCartney's bottom line overmuch, as the artist's vast fortune is estimated at $800 million.

McCartney left the court without making any statement.

The Oscar winner who only recently said, "I want to stay pregnant forever" reportedly delivered the baby at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

The father is 32-year-old Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, Berry’s partner of two years. The pair met while shooting a Versace advertisement in Los Angeles in 2005.

After announcing her pregnancy last September, Berry told Oprah Winfrey that she and Aubry tried for a baby unsuccessfully for some time, but one negative pregnancy test followed another, "and finally, after about 35 tests, we finally got a positive test."

If you recall last summer having Toronto streets blocked off to accommodate big movie trucks, trailers and their film crews, it was due to the filming for The Incredible Hulk. Shooting began in the summer and took place for about 4 months around the city in such places like on Ossington Street, University of Toronto where tanks and soldiers marched along College Street to invade the Koffler Centre and Knox College's courtyard that saw soldiers firing live ammunition.

Yonge Street was closed, from College to Dundas, for 3 days to film what was said to be the final fight scene between The Abomination and The Hulk. Yonge street was dressed to look like New York City's Harlem with the remodeling of The Cannon Theatre to look like the Apollo but, as you'll see in the trailer below, there's no way a Torontonian will miss or not recognize these beasts running by Zanzibar!

This version of The Incredible Hulk, produced by Marvel Studios and directed by Louis Leterrie, stars Edward Norton as Dr. Bruce Banner, a.k.a The Hulk, Liv Tyler as Banner’s longtime love interest, scientist Betty Ross, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, a KGB agent who becomes The Abomination and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Starks aka Iron Man which is schedule for its own release on May 2nd, 2008.

A CLEAN SHAVEN MAN

Men have been shaving forever. Cavemen probably shaved with stone knives, and there’s some suggestion that they may even have trimmed their hair with fire! (Ouch!)

Among the many reasons men began shaving in Stone Age times were:

To reduce the breeding grounds for lice, fleas and small rodents
To avoid having their beard grabbed during battle
To make it easier to eat
Superstition associated a heavily bearded man with old age and death, in addition to the superstitious belief of spirits which entered the body through hairs on the head

Men have always wondered "should I shave or let it grow"? Majority of the time it boils down to being lazy.

Some ponder "Do women find me more attractive with a beard or a clean shave"? Hmmmmmmmm.

Well, in a recent survey, 70% of women prefer clean shaven men. 20% prefer a goatee, stubble or well trimmed mustache. 7% prefer a full beard and 3% do not care about facial hair and chances are if she doesn't care about your hair, she's hoping you have the same understanding for her.

Most women love a clean look and when you shave and dress nice you will be the guy that has everything going on. Now as the survey has indicated, some women do prefer guys with mustaches like Tom Selleck's Magnum P.I. bush. However, unless you are an older man I would stay away from that mustache. Mustaches conjure images of porn stars. (Atleast for me it does) Also some women prefer the rugged look of stubble or a big beard. The number of women that prefer the rugged look is far less than the number of women you will get with a clean shave. When you have a lot of facial hair it's much harder to clean your skin and it looks like you are hiding your face, which can be a good thing if you are not attractive. It will also save your lady from having to deal with "beard rash"

For the fellas who refused to shave and are confident and content sporting their "I am man, hear me roar" stubble/beard, do not fear fore you will not be shunned away. All we ask is you keep it clean and look out for our "Ode to Men with Facial Hair" post in the near future. For now, here's a tip you can pass onto your lady, from make- up artist Donna Fitzpatrick, on treating "beard rash.

"Beard rash occurs when the rough bristles aggravate the soft delicate skin around the mouth. Get your man to shave well. Should you get a rash there are a number of things you can do to your skin to treat it. I love to use Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream to bathe the area in moisture. It has anti- septic properties to help soothe the area. Apply a thick mask to the area and allow to penetrate. After a half an hour or so get a stiff towel and using small, gentle circular motions rub the area to detach any dry skin or flakes. Blot area using a tissue, leaving a residue of product. The area will be red, but settle in a few hours. Apply the cream to the area that night, avoiding perfumed products and make- up if at all possible. If you have to wear make up go for a yellow based foundation which will counteract the ruddiness of the skin. The skin should be back to normal the following morning. Alternatively, buy him a present of a professional wet shave set for his Birthday, Father's Day, Christmas or Valentine's Day Present."

BEAT THE COLD

This winter has been one for the record books and your skin has taken a licking. We've outlined some reminder points to help make it through what we hope are the last few days of winter.

Its time for some serious TLC so you can enter spring looking as bright as the colours you’ll be wearing. Be flexible, you might need to use different products in the winter than you do in the summer. Think of your needs and test products to see which work best for you.

A good moisturizer is a definite must. Your moisturizer will help you against the elements by providing a protective barrier. So after 11 months in the slammer, Girls Gone Wild founder and millionaire Joe Francis is a free man.

The Associated Press reports that Francis, 34, pleaded no contest to child abuse and prostitution charges Wednesday under an agreement that allowed him to walk free after nearly a year in jail.

Francis had returned to Florida after posting a $1.5-million bond this week in Nevada, where he is accused of tax fraud. The hearing resolved a 2003 criminal case involving the filming of underage girls during spring break on Panama City Beach.

He was sentenced to 339 days on Wednesday, the time he has already served in Florida and Nevada and also ordered to pay more than $60,000 in fines, court costs and restitution to the county.

Francis also agreed that his company which makes him an estimated $29 million a year on videos of young women in sexually provocative situations, would not conduct any filming between Escambia and Jackson Counties in Florida for the next three years

Francis advised plea agreement negotiations are under way in the Nevada case and he hopes to resolve them soon.

"I'm going to go back to making videos, this afternoon," he said.

Riding the surging price of Berkshire Hathaway stock, Buffett has seen his fortune swell to an estimated $62 billion, up $10 billion from a year ago.

Gates is now worth $58 billion and is ranked third richest in the world. He is up $2 billion from a year ago, but would have been as rich--or richer--than Buffett, had Microsoft not made an unsolicited bid for Yahoo! at the beginning of February.

Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helú now ranks as the world's second richest person with a net worth of $60 billion. His fortune has risen $11 billion since last March.

Authorities in Northern Mexico warns motorists that anyone who is caught putting on lipstick, shaving or holding a pet while behind the wheel, will be charged hefty fines in an attempt to lower the chances of traffic accidents.

Applying makeup or shaving while driving will cost the drivers 346 pesos ($32) in Torreon in Northern Mexico City

Along with other common traffic offenses, that charge higher fines, such as driving under intoxication, speeding and talking on a cell phone without a hands free device, the city hall included littering and driving with an animal or even another person on the motorist’s lap.

A health and safety expert has been banned from driving after he was caught shaving as he overtook a line of rush hour traffic at 70mph.

Edward Hutcheson, 39, was seen leaning forward to look in his rear view mirror as he used an electric shaver.

Hutcheson, who had previously worked on accident investigations with the police, claimed he was late for a first aid course he was to deliver and had been leaning across the car at an awkward angle so he could see past a dozen mannequins he had stored in the back of his car.

The court heard how police officers saw him drive past their patrol vehicle as he used an electric shaver on his face and crane his head to look in the rear view mirror.

They turned around and chased Hutcheson, before catching up with him a mile further on.

He had one hand on the wheel and police said he appeared to be checking if he was "getting a good shave".

He was banned for six months and fined 300£ after being found guilty of careless driving.

OH, THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL....

Cold weather is no stranger to us in Canada and if you’re like me, you can’t stand it. Although it can be great for a lot of things: snowboarding, skiing, hockey of course, or just relaxing by a fireplace. (if you’re lucky enough to have one) But unfortunately it can also seriously damage your skin. Your skin seriously is affected during these cold months, as it being the largest organ on the human body is exposed to the chillness of Ol’ Man Winter. Falling temperatures, chilling winds, and overheating in your home can all work to dry out and crack your lips, face and body’s surface. With the long winter months ahead of us, you need to maintain your skin’s health, so here are some tips to help keep Jack Frost from nipping at you!

The key to keeping skin healthy in cold weather is to keep it hydrated. Cold air causes skin to dry and chap easily, as it has less moisture in it. To make up for this lack of hydration, you should moisturize twice as much as you do, during warmer months. Consider purchasing a humidifier to replace moisture in your home’s air.

Now like most, I enjoy taking relaxing hot showers. It’s even more tempting on a cold winter’s day and seems like the greatest idea, but it’s not. You should keep your shower lukewarm. Very hot water evaporates quickly and can dehydrate skin. Moisturize your skin within a few minutes of stepping out of the shower to lock in moisture.

When cleansing your face, use a gentle face wash, rather than soap, which can dry out your skin. Look for products that contain hydrating ingredients like aloe and glycerin, which can help replenish skin’s moisture.

You want to keep your skin protected from outside elements such as cold and wind, so cover up your face and body well, and use lip protection regularly to avoid chapping. Even though it’s cold, don’t forget to use sunscreen that is no less than SPF15. Most people are unaware of how much sun damage they can sustain during the winter. Ultraviolet rays are still strong during the winter, and glare from snow can cause skin damage. It is therefore just as vital to protect skin from the sun during the winter, as it is in the summer.

If you suffer from very dry feet (that can really cut a rug), before hitting the sack, try lubing them up with moisturizer, then throw on some light cotton socks. Instead of allowing the moisture to evaporate into the air, when covered, your skin’s pores will absorb the moisturizer better.

While it’s tempting to take extra precautions against the season’s colds and illnesses, reduce your use of antibacterial gels and wipes. They contain alcohol, which robs skin of moisture.

And lastly, if you’re fortunate during winter to either be on vacation from “THE MAN”, or on a permanent vacation, take advantage of the power of our Canadian dollar by heading south with the geese!

The first step to finding the right products for you is deciding what type of skin type you have. Most products target several individual skin types: oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, acne-prone skin and combination skin.

Oily skin: Feels slightly greasy or slick to the touch, with larger pores. It is usually more prone to blackheads and whiteheads. Look for products that are ultralight and oil-free, and exfoliating items that will remove oil and dirt.

Dry skin: Often feels tight and itchy and is more prone to irritations. Look for products that contain hydrating ingredients like Aloe, Urea and Allantoin, and pay special attention to moisturizers. Keep in mind that moisture is not the same thing as oil, so you don’t need heavy, oily products to achieve good levels of hydration for your skin.

Sensitive skin: Easily irritated by skincare or shaving products or extreme weather conditions. Look for products that do not contain dyes, fragrances or irritants and are specially formulated for sensitive skin.

Normal skin: If haven’t had any reoccurring skin problems such as shininess, acne or irritated skin, you probably have normal skin. Unless a product states otherwise, most skincare items can be used by men with normal skin.

Combination skin: Most men fall into this category, having dry patches and oily patches on their face at the same time (oily patches often fall in the “T-Zone”: your forehead and down your nose to your chin). Look for products that gently clean skin without harsh abrasives and moisturizers that are ultralight.

Acne-prone skin: Can partner with oily skin, but is also a factor with people with dry skin. This type tends to break out frequently with pimples, blackheads or whiteheads. Look for products that are noncomedgenic (not pore-clogging) and contain ingredients like benzoyl peroxide.

Once you’ve zeroed in on what type of skin you have, concentrate on finding products that appeal to that type, or products recommended for all skin types.

A good idea is to start with a very basic skin care routine that involves four steps: Cleaning, Exfoliating, Shaving, and Moisturizing. That means you should look for a gentle liquid cleanser for your face, an exfoliating scrub, a shaving product, an aftershave product and a moisturizer with a SPF of atleast 15. If you start with these basic items, you can’t really go wrong.

For example, every guy should own a reliable, broad-spectrum protection sunscreen. If you are interested in products targeted towards reducing wrinkles and diminishing lines on the face and around eyes, look for specific items that do just that.

Most importantly, don’t be afraid to try new products or alter your skincare routine. After all, you are the best judge of what makes your skin feel good and look great. Keep in mind that most products need at the very least a week to begin working, so don’t be too quick to switch products if you’re not getting results right away.

AVOID UNSIGHTLY AND PAINFUL INGROWN HAIRS

Ingrown hairs (also called razor bumps) are generally not a serious skin care problem, but it can be unsightly, painful and very bothersome for men. They result when the shaved hair gets trapped inside the follicle or grows back into the skin. It can cause scarring, redness and swelling (its medical term is Pseudofolliculitis Barbae or PFB).

Following all four of the steps in this regimen for several weeks will help combat and solve the most stubborn conditions or occasional ingrown hairs.

1. Treat with active ingredients

The first step is to use active ingredients. There are tons of men skin care products that claim to alleviate ingrown hairs and razor bumps, but don't rush to conclusions. The truth is that the active ingredient that eliminates razor bumps is Salicylic Acid. It is a dermatological-grade ingredient that exfoliates, moisturizes and clears your pores, thus avoiding any further infections. Use a post-shave product that contains salicylic acid and that way it will stay on your skin during the day. Also, do not use foam shaving creams because these can dry and irritate the skin. Instead use non-acnegenic shaving creams which are specially made for men with sensitive skin. You should NEVER use products that contain alcohol. Alcohol, will seriously worsen ingrown hairs by drying the skin and closing the pores.

2. Improve your skin's surface

The second step focuses on how to improve the surface of your skin. Exfoliating (removing the upper layers of dead skin) is indispensable to manage ingrown hairs. Daily use of a gentle face scrub with glycolic and salicylic acid is particularly effective.

TIP: Using a soft-bristle face brush and liquid cleanser in a circular motion on your beard will help further to dislodge the tips of ingrown hairs, eliminate dead skin cells and clear follicles to allow hairs to surface unimpeded.

3. Adjust your shaving technique

By now you should know that shaving too closely is one of the main triggers for razor bumps. If you didn't know, well you know now. Hair stubs cut too closely will get trapped inside the hair follicle, dig inward or sideways and…tada! An ingrown hair is born. Some helpful advice to avoid shaving too close is to not pull the skin when you shave; don't put too much pressure on the blades; shave with the grain using a single-blade razor and avoid repeated strokes in the same.

IMPORTANT: You will need to maintain this approach over time, because one shave too close, will be enough to cause a recurrence of ingrown hairs that will take weeks to heal.

4. Treat already ingrown hairs

So what do you do about the ingrown hairs you currently have? Well, to rid yourself of the little pesky suckers, simply but carefully lift the ingrown end out with tweezers. DO NOT PLUCK THEM OUT! Just lift them out of the skin otherwise the ingrown hair will only re-grow deeper. Using products that contain azulene, allantoin and witch hazel will help reduce the redness and swelling. These ingredients will keep you comfortable.

SHAVING 101

Ok, well you’re probably thinking you’ve been shaving since that first sprout of peach fuzz, so who are we to tell you how to shave now, right? We might as well be telling you how to wipe your bottom! (Front to back seem to be the census.) But believe it or not, many men do not know how to shave properly and this can lead to a great deal of problems such as razor burns and ingrown hairs.

Wet shaving (shaving with a manual razor vs. an electric shaver) is the best way to achieve a close, effective shave and better looking skin. Shaving not only makes a man look well groomed, but younger too, as it exfoliates the skin getting rid of dead cells. So while you may know everything there is to shaving, we’re sure taking the time to read this can only correct and improve your shaving routine, thus making it more enjoyable or confirm you’re doing things right…..and of course, know it all!

Step 1 - Prep

Wash your face using a facial cleanser to clean and remove any excess oil from your skin. Shaving after a hot (not scolding!) shower is ideal because it allows time for the hairs to become softened and opens up your pores. Dampening the face has the effect of swelling the shafts of your facial hair, making it soft and easier to cut.

TIP: The wetter, the better!

Step 2 – Lather

Apply a thin layer of pre-shave oil to face and neck. This will act as a lubricated base and provide an extra barrier between the skin and razor, reducing friction. Now, that cheap shave-in-a-can foamy stuff available at your local drugstore or supermarket, get rid of it. They usually contain numbing agents that will close your pores and stiffen the hair. Instead, you want a glycerin-based shaving cream or gel that will give you a rich, creamy lather. In a circular motion, apply shaving cream or gel over the pre-shave oil. Although it’s fine to use your fingers when applying your shaving cream or gel, we strongly recommend using a badger hair shave brush that has been soaked in hot water. This combination delivers a thicker, richer, more emollient lather that’s impossible to get with your fingers alone. The shave brush also gently exfoliates and lifts the hairs preparing your skin for a close, comfortable and smooth shave.

TIP: It’s a good idea to let the shaving cream or gel sit on your face for 1-2 minutes before beginning to shave to further soften the hair.

Step 3 – Shave

Get yourself a high-quality, non-disposable razor that you feel most comfortable with. We’re not trying to break your pockets, but your skin is well worth the investment. Always use a clean and sharp blade, as this will require less pressure and less pressure means less nicks and cuts. When you shave you’re not only removing hair, but also removing about two layers of skin. Shaving with a dull blade is more likely to make your skin feel scratched and look blotchy, so change your blade after every 3 or 4 shaves. Begin by shaving in the same direction as your hair growth, first. This is known as going with the grain. Shaving against the grain can certainly run the risk of causing an ingrown hair, which is what causes those unsightly razor bumps. Using short, light strokes, shave the easy areas around the cheeks first. This will leave more time for the tougher hairs to absorb the moisture and soften up. Take your time and rinse your razor in hot water between strokes to remove clogged hair and cream. Once you’re done shaving, rinse your face thoroughly with cold water to remove any leftover traces of shaving cream and close your pores. Pat, do not rub your face dry.

TIP: It’s important to note that you should shave only as much as your razor will allow. Over shaving can cause ingrown hairs.

Step 4 - Soothe

Your skin is very sensitive at this point, so you definitely want to avoid using alcohol-based aftershaves. These will irritate and dry the skin out. You just shaved off two layers of skin, remember? So you want to soothe and moisturize that skin. Apply a post-shave moisturizer that is for men. Women’s products tend to be too greasy and they also aren’t as quickly absorbed.

BASIC SKIN CARE FOR MEN

Moisturize

An oil-free or light moisturizer is best. Apply after showering to lock in moisture.
