BEAT THE COLD

This winter has been one for the record books and your skin has taken a licking. We've outlined some reminder points to help make it through what we hope are the last few days of winter.

Its time for some serious TLC so you can enter spring looking as bright as the colours you’ll be wearing. Be flexible, you might need to use different products in the winter than you do in the summer. Think of your needs and test products to see which work best for you.

A good moisturizer is a definite must. Your moisturizer will help you against the elements by providing a protective barrier. With the wind and cold, moisturizering is your first line of defense, look for products containing shea butter, aloe vera, chamomile, honey, and vitamins A, B1, B2, D, and E. Aloe has anti inflammatory properties and stimulates skin renewal. Our Sharps Daily Prep Tuning Lotion contains aloe, while our Urth’s Face balm and Menscience Advanced lotion contains Vitamins A and C. And don’t forget your hands and lips. They are extremely volatile in this weather, like your face they need to be moisturized. You want to prevent chaffing and chapping so look for products like our Menscience Advanced Lip Protection with Vitamin E which helps prevent against UV damage, also reduces water loss and Sharps Lip Stuff with beeswax, its hydrating and beeswax acts as an emollient, soothing and calming the skin

Secondly, sunblock is recommended for everyday protection against the sun and to prevent premature aging. Your sunblock should have an SPF (sun protection factor) of atleast 15 to fight off UVB ray damage. The sun is always out, so you always need protection especially if you are out on the slopes. Don't fool yourself, sun burn can occur in winter. Our Menscience Tio2 has an SPF of 30, and Sharps Daily Prep Oil Free Lotion and Urth Face Blam both have an SPF of 15.

Think inside out, what you put inside your body is just as important to your overall appearance as what you put on your body. Drink lots of water, 2-3 litres a day should suffice. Add B vitamins to your daily routine, and vitamin D (or look for a multivitamin with atleast 400 IU). Our Menscience Advance Antioxidants helps support the body’s defense against free radicals that can damage cells and accelerate the aging process. Your hair and nails can get brittle and dry in this weather so taking a multivitamin and eating a well balanced diet with sufficient protein will help to maintain them and the rest of your body.

Thankfully Spring starts on March 20th, so hopefully the worst is behind us
